What is it like in our coven?
We work magic as a group. This process is mysterious and hard to describe, but it creates deep intimate relationships with the other members.
We keep coming because we value each other and the magic we create together in ritual.
A coven is more intimate than a club, requires more from you than a church, and provides spiritual intimacy with others.
For more information on the coven experience, check out Thorn Mooney's book "Traditional Wicca."
Ritual
Ritual is where the magic happens. It might be better to explain what ritual is NOT:
-
Ritual is not a "witchy" church service. All the individuals in the coven come to circle in their own power as equals. The circle is a place of organic co-creation and magic where each member fully participates.
-
Ritual is not group therapy. Though ritual often has a therapeutic effect on our members by strengthening their spirituality. Members do share about current struggles and offer each other support but that is only part of the magic.
What does a coven DO?
Keeping an environment of love and trust in ritual is a priority.
This is a prerequisite for the cohesion we need to work magic.
We are very much like a "magical family" and are selective with invitations into our circle.

Our Expectations Regarding New Members
Joining a coven takes time. Love and trust take time to build. If you are a true seeker, are willing to put in the effort, you will find the experience richly rewarding. Commitment. New members are asked to attend 70% of all coven functions for a year and a day prior to initiation. This serves two purposes:  it shows commitment and the increased contact with members develops the intimacy that true group magic requires.    Privacy and respect. We keep our members' identities and personal information private and do not share details from ritual with people outside the circle.   We are looking for responsible adults whose lives are stable. We expect potential members to have their earth-plane lives in order, meaning they have a stable place to live, a steady income, transportation, health and mental health issues are being addressed, etc.  There is no specific age or income requirement. If you live with others, they need to be supportive of your endeavor to join. More and more people are living with other adult family members or roommates due to rising housing costs.  To prevent future conflicts that could disrupt the coven milieu, we require that you garner support from adults you live with (e.g., parents, spouses, roommates) for your Wiccan journey prior to pursing membership. There is no requirement to be "out of the broom closet" with other family. We do not discuss politics in the coven. Politics are polarizing and can easily undermine the environment of love and trust. We DO discuss the dynamic, overarching, archetypal themes of our current world and believe that politics are just part of the visible effects of these greater forces.
Steps to Joining the Coven
These steps are mandatory and go in this order.  At any time, this process can stop either by the new or prospective member or by the coven.  Consider it like a long interview process. 1. Fill out the contact form below and submit.  Please see the "Our Expectations Regarding New Members" above.  We screen people based on those expectations.  You can ask questions.  We start a connection through this process, answer your questions.  If we see promise together, we may decide to meet. 2.  Meet in person.  We generally meet in a public setting like a coffee house or restaurant.  We get a better feel for each other.  Tell some personal stories of our spiritual journeys, make a stronger connection. 3.  Wicca 101 discussion group.  Even if you have practiced as a solitary for years, we require Wicca 101, a group of 5 to 6 discussion groups.  This isn't just about learning about Wicca, it is also getting to know each other over the course of weeks. 4.  Join the ritual circle as a Dedicant. Dedicants are seriously studying with the possibility of becoming Wiccan Priests or Priestesses.  The only promise is to be open to learning.  . 5. Initiation.  1st Degree Initiate Witches have been studying Wicca for at least a year and a day, have learned the basic skills of a Priest or Priestess, made a commitment to Wicca and the coven, and experienced a spiritual awakening. A First Degree Witch is Priest or Priestess for Himself or Herself, and may lead the Coven ritual under the guidance of the High Priest and High Priestess.  There is no requirement to continue pursuing elevation to 2nd degree. 6.  Elevation.  2nd Degree Initiates have followed the Wiccan path for two or more years, have mastered a range of magical skills, and serve others as teachers, counselors, and leaders. The Second Degree Witch may organize a coven and train Dedicants and 1st Degree Initiates under the guidance and authority of his or her High Priest and High Priestess.  There is no requirement to pursue ordination as a 3rd degree. 7. Ordination.  3rd Degree or High Priest and High Priestesses have completed training in religious leadership, have demonstrated competency in several areas, and have taken to themselves the responsibility for continuing and expanding the Wiccan religion.
